Term 2, Week 3

Beads and hollow forms

Instructions

  • A silver metal clay lentil bead - this can be round or square. If you choose to make a square bead you must fill in the sides but still have a space for the chain or cord.

  • A silver metal clay Pandora-style bead - either wrap around or snake style.

  • At least one charm must have a patina using liver of sulphur.

  • Make a hollow form pendant with a flat back (like the butterfly and flower example). The piece must include a bail - either hidden behind the piece or over the top, and an embellishment/s of your choice e.g. from a mould, stone setting, hand formed embellishment etc.

Lentil bead

Inspired by the symbolism of the Egyptian lunar disk, this lentil bead is a three-dimensional design that allows the chain or cord to pass through the bead. With added 24k gold on the moon.

Pandora-style bead

A simple yet captivating project - wrapping clay to form a bead. As I delved deeper into the artistry and symbolism of ancient Egyptian jewellery during one of my Egyptology courses, inspiration struck. I created my own beads, each infused with the spirit of ancient craftsmanship and adorned with a touch of contemporary elegance. - https://www.persara.co.uk/blog/kerma-beauty

Hollow form pendant

I really enjoyed this project. A half lentil bead, set with a carnelian cabochon and 24k gold keum boo background. The incorporation of 24k gold adds a luxurious and opulent touch to the design and is carried through to the hollow form drop bead. I tried this design with various different colour stones but settled with the carnelian which represents the Egyptian sun disk.
